Why it's wrong
The term 'tribe' is often used in Western media to imply primitive, homogenous, or conflict-prone groups, reinforcing colonial stereotypes. It oversimplifies Africa's complex social structures and can carry pejorative connotations of backwardness.
What's actually true
Africa is home to thousands of diverse ethnic groups with rich histories, languages, and cultural practices, such as the Yoruba in Nigeria with their sophisticated artistic traditions or the Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania known for their pastoralist livelihoods. These groups often have dynamic political systems, economic networks, and modern engagements, not defined by static or simplistic labels.
